How to make colors that harmonize together?

This very simple and quick practical technique allows you to harmonize colors, no matter the medium: acrylic, oil, or gouache.

What’s fantastic about this trick is that you can use it for every painting style.

Both figurative artists and abstract artists frequently use this technique to create harmony between colors, no matter which colors they choose.

No need to know color theory! It works every time!

Once you know this technique, you’ll want to try it.

A 2-step technique to harmonize your colors:

1. Make a mixture by taking a small amount of each pure color you want to harmonize together.

In our example, this mixture became the brown in the center of the palette. The resulting mix will vary depending on the colors used.

2. Take the result of your mixture and add a small amount of it to each of the colors you want to harmonize.

In our example, the results of the mixes are the colors at the bottom of the palette.

And voilà — your colors harmonize beautifully!

Note: The white is added only for the camera, to better see the differences between the pure colors and those with the mixture. You do not need to add white when preparing your colors.
